Counseling Services

Counseling Services

Counseling services are available to all students in grades K-5. Parent permission must be given in writing before a student can receive individual or small group counseling. Students will typically meet with me once a week for 30 minutes, depending on the area of concern and scheduling.

Individual Counseling

Individual counseling services are available for students who may be struggling with personal issues such as abuse, aggressive/disruptive behaviors, anger management, stress, self-esteem, and family related problems.

Small Group Counseling

Small group counseling services are available to students who may have trouble forming or maintaining friendships, working with others, solving problems, and communicating. Small groups usually consist of 2-5 students and can begin at any time of the school year. They are planned around the specific needs of individual students.

Focus Groups
Focus groups are also offered throughout the school year. These groups are open to all students, run for about eight weeks, and generally meet once a week during lunch. Focus groups differ from other small counseling groups because they are intended to be preventive. Topics are chosen at the beginning of the school year and activities are pre-planned. Information on these groups is sent home in September and can also be found on this website.

Classroom Guidance

Classroom lessons are offered several times throughout the school year. These lessons are intended to be preventive and teach students how to handle difficult situations such as bullying and friendship.

In addition, lessons are offered on Careers. The Guidance Department provides career preparation for students in grades K-12 every year. For students in grades K-5, this includes a basic introduction to careers, tools, job skills, and career planning.
