February 2024 Updates

At its regular meeting on February 26, 2024, the Board of Education passed a resolution providing for the holding of a special election on a bond proposition for physical education/athletic facilities and field improvements. The cost of the project will not exceed $3,100,000, and because New York State building aid and district reserves will aid in funding this project, the project will result in no new or additional tax impact to taxable property. The vote will be held on April 16 from noon to 8:00 pm in the lobby outside the middle school gymnasium.

The cost of one multipurpose synthetic turf field has been donated and accepted by the Board of Education. This does not constitute part of the proposed $3,100,000 to be financed. The $3,100,000 will be to address the installation of light poles, resurfacing of the track, and re-location of field events on Dave Kelly Field; and updates to the lower field to include a new multi-purpose softball/soccer field, new drainage, backstop, and dugouts.

On February 6, 2024, the Delaware Academy Board of Education accepted a donation from the Clark Family of materials and labor for the installation and maintenance of a turf athletic field. This acceptance was contingent upon the district's commitment to move forward with a capital project that includes the other elements from October's Proposition 2: a new softball/soccer field for the lower field consisting of new drainage, backstop, dugouts, a natural grass outfield, and “skinned” infield (dirt/sand mix for greater absorbance); resurfacing of the existing track surrounding Dave Kelly Field, re-location of field events at each end, and LED lighting.

The Board of Education will review language for a new proposition and a call for vote at its next regular meeting on February 26. A community information forum will be scheduled prior to the vote. This webpage will serve as a portal to catalogue related information and documentation as a community reference, and will be updated as new information becomes available.

Current Building Projects - Progress and Updates

Agriculture and Technology Innovation Lab Design Planning

two adults and a number of students reviewing planning drawings

The projects approved in Proposition 1 by voters in October 2023 are advancing. Highland Associates Architects are in the planning phases for design of our Agriculture and Technology Innovation Lab, and recently met with students and faculty. As design plans are finalized, they are submitted to the State Education Department for approval and to be assigned a project number. Once that is complete, we can move ahead with opening bids for the project.
