A Message from the Superintendent

Dear DA family and friends, As March rolls in, we have both a lot to celebrate and a lot to look forward to! First, let me congratulate all our winter sports athletes for a busy and rewarding season. Both our boys JV and varsity basketball teams earned MAC Championship titles, and the varsity boys went on to compete in the Section IV Class C tournament, ultimately falling to Moravia in the title game. Our girls varsity basketball team finished third in the MAC League tournament, but had a great run in sectionals, winning the Section IV Class D championship for the first time since 2018! Good luck to our girls as they continue to advance in regional competition! Two of our athletes were able to advance to state competitions, with wrestler Cadence Guy finishing 5th in her weight class at the NYSPHSAA Girls Wrestling Tournament and Nelson VanMaaren earning a spot on the Section IV Boys Intersectional Relay Team, which finished 8th at the state meet. Congratulations to all! Spring temperatures have finally arrived, and with that comes our spring sports, which will begin soon. I’m looking forward to watching our track and field, softball, baseball and golf teams compete! The change in temperature also means the flow of sap, and our FFA students have begun their annual maple production project, under the guidance of advisors Michelle Somers and Mark Kline. We look forward to the rewards their hard work will produce! We are, of course, In the middle of 2025-2026 budget planning. We’re committed to bringing our taxpayers a budget that is fiscally responsible while still providing the very best for our students. Please attend our scheduled budget sessions if you can, but if you can’t, we are always available to provide updated information upon request. If you’d like an easy way to stay current, I encourage you to download our new mobile app (“Delaware Academy CSD”), available on the Apple App Store and the Android Store. News, posts, notifications, menus and more, all at your fingertips on your mobile device. As always, feel free to contact me directly with any questions or concerns. Best wishes, Carey Shultz
